Y.L. is diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). What is GDM?

What will be an ideal response?

GDM refers to carbohydrate (CHO) intolerance first recognized during pregnancy. It varies in degree
of severity and can persist after pregnancy. The term also applies to women who might have had
undiagnosed type 2 DM before pregnancy. GDM places Y.L. at increased risk to develop DM later in life.
