Describe the three basic types of column subtraction problems
What will be an ideal response?
The easiest type of column subtraction problem is the problem in which the subtrahend is smaller than the minuend in each column; renaming is not required. In the second type of problem, one or more columns have a subtrahend that is larger than the minuend. This type of problem requires renaming. The third type of problem includes column subtraction problems that require renaming. Problems with zeros in the minuend and problems with renaming in consecutive columns are included in this type.
