Why is the International Building Code important for reducing mass wasting losses?


By requiring certain studies prior to construction, building codes identify areas prone to mass wasting. By regulating the type of construction, land use and site development the codes improve the integrity of buildings while concurrently considering the limitations of the land to minimize the damage from and danger of mass movements.
