Describe narrative theatre and explain how it especially lends itself to the treatment of oppression.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Narrative theater integrates concepts from narrative therapy and forum theater, also known as Theater of the Oppressed, developed in Brazil by Augusto Boal. In forum theater, the facilitator and the audience are mutually engaged in a “scene” that is recognizable to all present. They are then “invited” to provide commentary on what they have witnessed. Members of the audience can replace any of the actors at any point in the presentation to share their own unique perspectives about the scene. This approach is helpful in challenging certain positions and cultural practices that seem natural but subjugate and oppress.
