Provide an overview of arguments against corporal punishment in the schools
What will be an ideal response?
Critics believe that "corporal punishment is neither a necessary nor an effective response to misbehavior in school." In addition, corporal punishment inhibits learning, interferes with the accomplishment of each of the important developmental tasks of children, and has the potential for physical harm to the child. The practice has been labeled anachronistic, counterproductive, and most damaging to children who are already emotionally disturbed. Moreover, children who witness physically punitive adult behavior are more likely themselves to behave aggressively and antisocially.
