Discuss the differences between a rigid-frame building and a woodframe building
What will be an ideal response?
A rigid-frame building is made from formed steel used for framing parts. It permits very long roof
spans with relatively flat roofs. They must be set on and bolted to extremely strong concrete posts or
floors. A woodframe building has walls constructed of vertical 2 ? 4's placed 16 inches on center.
They have floors nailed to floor joists that are carried by the concrete of block walls or foundation and
one or more centerline girders. They rely on solid masonry foundations and one or more posts to bear
the weight of the structure, provide anchorage against wind, and prevent moisture from entering below
grade.
