The Sixth Amendment guarantees the defendant the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury, the right to be informed of the nature of charges against them and the right to confront any prosecution witnesses. The Eighth Amendment protects against the imposition of excessive bail and fines as well as the potential of the infliction of cruel and unusual punishment.
