If you were visiting Germany in 1800, what would you do to convince a geology student that not all rocks formed by precipitating from water?

What will be an ideal response?

Most answers will probably be focused on showing them the rocks that form at volcanoes. Hutton's observation of dikes cross cutting layered sedimentary rock and igneous rock heating and altering the country rock would also challenge the idea that the deeper the rock is, the older it must be.
