Follow a particle of a digestible food molecule from entrance to utilization by cells
What will be an ideal response?
Food enters the mouth, is carried to the esophagus, to the stomach, where some digestion occurs, and a bit of absorption as well. The primary site of digestion occurs in the small intestine, where enzymes and other compounds from the liver and pancreas empty. This molecule, being digestible, is absorbed by cells of the stomach or the small intestine, and, depending on the type of food molecule, is picked up by the capillaries or the lacteals of the intestinal wall, makings its way to the circulatory system, where ultimately, it will be delivered to cells.
