Compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the cluster approach and the dimensions approach
The cluster approach groups countries into clusters according to similar characteristics. It is useful for comparing and contrasting different clusters with each other. However, it is weak at comparing and contrasting variance within one cluster.
The dimensions approach evaluates and analyzes cultures according to five dimensions: power distance, individualism or collectivism, masculinity or feminism, uncertainty avoidance, and long-term orientation. This method requires additional work to analyze each culture in each of these categories, but it gives a fuller understanding of the specific culture and can then be compared to others.
