Is the potassium and sodium ion concentration in a resting neuron high or low? Explain why

What will be an ideal response?

In a resting cell, the sodium channels are closed, but potassium channels are open, therefore the potassium ion concentration is high within the cell, and the sodium concentration external to the cell is high. This is the resting potential. The outside of the cell is negatively charged when compared to the inside of the neuron.
