How would you go about developing phonological awareness?

What will be an ideal response?

Phonological awareness would be developed as follows:
• Begin with larger units. Go from segmenting words in a sentence, to segmenting compound words, to segmenting onset and rime, to segmenting the sounds in a word.
• Develop ability to segment, blend, and manipulate speech sounds.
• Use rhymes and wordplay and games in the early stages.
• Work in small groups.
• Help students notice how sounds are formed.
• Relate phonological awareness to phonics. For example, teach segmenting blends when about to teach the decoding of blends.
• Monitor progress and adapt instruction as necessary.
