What do face validity and content validity mean? How would each be examined?

Ans: Face validity refers to the accuracy of a measurement on the face of it. Does it seem to measure the basic behavior that it is supposed to measure? Content validity refers to the extent that a measurement tool covers the total concepts that are a part of the variable being measured. Both of these tools can be examined through the opinions of key informants. With regard to face validity, the key informants could be asked what this tool seems to be measuring, and their responses would be examined for consistency with the definition used by the researcher who designed the tool. For content validity, the key informants would identify the key concepts that should be included for a scale measuring this behavior (e.g., depression, feelings of social support).
