Whose voting rights have been disenfranchised and why?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: In the United States, many African Americans have been disenfranchised, meaning their right to vote has been stripped away from them due to being convicted of a felony. Nationwide, 6.1 million Americans were disenfranchised due to a felony conviction, including 77% who are not in prison. Disenfranchisement is vastly disproportionate by race, as 1 of every 13 African Americans has been disenfranchised compared to 1 of every 56 non-Black voters. In the Southeastern states, voting disenfranchisement is more prevalent than in the Northeastern states. For example, Florida has the highest rate of total felony disenfranchisement at 10.4% and one of the highest rates of disenfranchisement of African Americans at 21.4%. The highest rate is in Kentucky at 26%. By contrast, states such as Massachusetts, Maryland, and Utah have fewer than 0.5%. Furthermore, voting ID laws often discriminate against minorities or the poor because they may not have access to getting an ID.
