How could you work backward from the due date of a paper in your daily planner? How could you slice up the work into manageable chunks?
What will be an ideal response?
Get students to think about the various activities involved in writing a paper. Encourage them to think beyond the categories outlined in this chapter and to consider the steps they typically proceed through when composing. The goal is to compose a brief list of four or five steps so that these steps can be incorporated into a daily planner. If, for example, a student likes to re-read relevant material before jotting notes on the assignment sheet, then she has two steps that she can identify in her planner--two self-imposed deadlines.
