Why are anabolic steroid hormones so dangerous?
What will be an ideal response?
Steroid hormones produced by the body are manufactured in small amounts only as needed. When an athlete injects steroids to build bulk and strength in muscle, the amounts are excessive compared to those produced by the body. Steroid hormones operate at the level of DNA, changing gene expression. The body very carefully regulates its production of these types of hormones, and injecting them upsets that delicate balance.
