Ans: The representativeness heuristic states that we tend to make decisions based on how well we believe a particular sample represents the larger population. Every decision we make when recruiting participants affects how representative the sample would be. For example, if we choose to recruit students from Introductory Psychology classes, these students will not necessarily represent even the population of the campus as a whole. Many students bring in AP credits so those who are taking the beginning course might not be psychology majors and might not represent the brightest students on campus. Further, more females than males take psychology classes so gender might not be fully represented. Also, more first year students take the introductory classes in order to fulfill liberal arts credits so not all class years will be represented equally.
