What is physical distribution? What are the components of physical distribution? Describe.
What will be an ideal response?
Physical distribution includes all of the activities that enable the movement of products through the marketing channels. These activities include physical transportation of goods. Marketers must examine the product, the cost involved, delivery speed, number of locations served, reliability, range of products carried, loss and damage records, and fuel efficiency when making transportation decisions. Another aspect of physical distribution is warehousing. The appropriate method of warehousing will again depend upon the product, the size of the company, and the needs of the target market. Order processing is a vital component of physical distribution, as is materials handling. Inventory management can have a huge impact on handling and storage costs, and total operating costs.
