Identify the components of a cultural care plan and its use with Indigenous persons.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: The cultural care plan has seven components which include: 1) developing in conjunction with clients, 2) contextualizing and individualizing, 3) discussing and planning in advance, allowing time to examine issues and to find acceptable solutions before crisis, 4) identifying key people with a cultural understanding who can ‘interpret’ for Aboriginal clients, 5) giving attention to cultural perceptions, 6) understanding of gender roles, and 7) making changes to the plan collectively. It is important to use cultural care plans with Indigenous populations because they allow the person’s unique story to be told in context to their Aboriginal histories.
