For each of the four examples shown below, give the Gestalt principle it demonstrates.


In many cases, the best way to analyze for Gestalt organizing principles to describe the image in words and then analyze the words.
For instance, figure A has two groups of rectangles. The groups are formed by virtue of their alignment, as is demonstrated in the image below. Alignment is a type of continuity. Proximity is not the organizational factor here because the leftmost rectangle in the lower group is actually closer to rectangles in the other group than it is to the rightmost rectangle in the lower group.
In image B, there are three groups. Each is a set of stars, hexagons and spirals set close together. Proximity is the visual equivalent to clustering in a data set.
Image C is composed of squares and circles. The two groups are squares and circles, so each group contains members of like type. The Gestalt principle is similarity.
Image D has two sets of symmetric lines. Traditional symmetry of this kind is usually the easiest for students to identify.
