Chapter 11
Refer to the research study described on pages 310 - 312 of your textbook to answer the following question.
Which of the approaches to the study of cognition do you think these researchers used in their experiments on problem solving: representationalist, embodied, or biological (see Chapter 1 for a review of these approaches)?

What will be an ideal response?

This study can be viewed as having aspects of all of the approaches.  Within the representationalist approaches, improved problem solving resulted from an increased attentional focus on the relevant features of the underlying representation of the problem.  However, the result also highlights the importance of the interaction between biological variables (like eye-position), the environment, and cognitive processes.
