List features of evidence-based design for health care settings.
What will be an ideal response?
Evidence-based design for health care settings has particularly focused on noise control and maximizing access to sunlight. Hospital noise has increased in recent decades and is a proven impediment to healing. A number of design innovations have been found to be effective in reducing hospital noise. These include single-bed rooms, replacing overhead paging with a noiseless system, covering neonatal incubators with blankets, and installing high-performance sound-absorbing ceiling tiles and floor carpets. A more recent study in Korea had a similar finding; patients in rooms in the part of the hospital that got the most sunlight had lengths of stay that ranged from 16% to 41% shorter than patients in other parts of the hospital. People in sunnier rooms took less pain medication as well.
