Funding of the schools

The last section of the chapter discusses funding of the schools. The questions here are similar to those raised in the governance question just above. In what ways and to what extent does funding by the three levels of government overlap? How do the three levels of government differ in their approach to funding? Which level of funding do you believe exerts the greatest impact on teaching? Why do you subscribe to that belief?

What will be an ideal response?

ANS: Scoring guide:

Key elements that should appear in an appropriate response:

* The first part of the assignment requires the student to determine the extent of funding by each governmental level and to examine the common ways in which funding occurs at the three levels. Full credit is based on completeness and accuracy.
* The second part of the question expects the student to note differences in the way the various types of funding are addressed at each of the three levels of government. Once again, full credit is based on completeness and accuracy.
* The answers to the third part of the assignment are based on the student's experiences, reading, and discussion. The justification, clearly explained with illustrations and easily within reason, enables a student to acquire the maximum number of points.
