Forty-year-old Amy had a tubal ligation to permanently prevent pregnancies. She is concerned the tubal ligation will affect her libido (sex drive). Explain what effect, if any, the tubal ligation will have on her libido
What will be an ideal response?
During tubal ligation, a surgeon makes an insertion into the wall of the body cavity, cuts through the uterine tubes, and either ligates or cauterizes their ends. This prevents the oocyte from passing through the uterine tubes and the sperm from reaching the oocyte. This procedure will not affect her libido (sex drive) as estrogens and progesterone will still be able to travel from the ovaries into the blood stream. The blood supply to the reproductive organs is not interrupted through a tubal ligation.
