The eight multiple intelligences of Howard Gardner and their definitions include:

1. Linguistic intelligence: Persons with this intelligence are sensitive to the meaning and order of words and the varied uses of language, humor/jokes and storytelling, along with creative writing are common attributes of these individuals.

2. Logical-mathematical intelligence: This group of individuals is comprised of those who have the finite ability to handle long chains of reasoning and recognize patterns and order in the world. Learning preferences include outlining, graphic organizers, and calculation.

3. Musical intelligence: One's sensitivity to rhythm and sound, with respect this intelligence, is predominant. These persons are music lovers, but also sensitive to sounds in their environments. Speaking rhythmically, tapping out time, music performance, and lessons geared to lyrics are preferences.

4. Spatial intelligence: This involves thinking in terms of physical space. Visual-spatial persons like to draw, do jigsaw puzzles, read maps, and daydream. Verbal and physical imagery are learning preferences with use of an active imagination, patterns/designs being learning preferences. Also, there's an ability to recreate, transform, or modify aspects of the world based on one's perceptions.

5. Bodily-kinesthetic: The body is used effectively, and a keen sense of body awareness is evident, with respect to using the body and handling objects. This includes movement, making things, touching with communication being through body language, such as hands-on learning, and gesturing,

6. Interpersonal intelligence: This involves interacting with others with the ability to notice and make distinctions among others. These persons are intuitive-of-others' feelings, with communication and collaborative skills at high levels.

7. Intrapersonal Intelligence: Persons in this category have access to their own feelings, they're self-aware who use silent reflection, thinking strategies, and inventing.

8. Naturalist intelligence: Observing, understanding, and organizing patterns in the natural environment along with a nurturing nature are predominant characteristics of this group. Ability to sense things is also a characteristic of naturalists. And, a ninth intelligence is called "existential intelligence," which is exemplified by persons with the ability to solve problems that are not tied to any single discipline or way of thinking.
