Name the five stages of the PEACE Model and analyze the content of each step. Which of these stages is very critical for the success of the process?
What will be an ideal response?
Students should name the five stages: Planning and Preparation; Engage and Explain; Account, Clarify, and Challenge; Closure; Evaluation. For each of these stages the students have to explain what they include. For example, in the planning and preparation stage investigators should make themselves familiar with the case and the suspects. The engage and explain stage is very important for the outcome of the process and should therefore be done very properly. After that stage the suspect should be able to understand the process and feel as relaxed as possible. In the account, clarify, and challenge stage the investigator should make the suspect explain his or her version. The closure stage includes a summary of the interview, which the investigator and the suspect will agree on. The last stage includes an evaluation of the investigation and the interview.
