Explain the concept of health engineering

Health engineering involves altering a product or the environment to meet a behavioral objective. Engineering strategies target access-type antecedents and enable persons to take and maintain action. Products or physical environments are built or redesigned to increase access to behavior facilitators as well as to limit access to counter-facilitators. For example, adding fluoride to the product of city water is one way to provide near universal access to fluoride. Engineering strategies can also target behavior-related skills, making it easier for a skill to be performed. Self-monitoring, or record keeping, is a behavioral skill associated with nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, sleep, and numerous other health behaviors. Use of the skill is less than ideal due to the complexity and inconvenience of the skill. Finally, engineering can be a mechanism for providing reminders. The dinging sound of a seat belt reminder and prompts in an electronic medical record are two examples of health engineering reminder strategies. Engineering a health-promoting environment is about manufacturing function and appeal. Environmental function focuses on the utility of the space and structures within the space.?
