Compare and contrast when open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires should be used in questionnaires.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Open-ended questions allow participants to answer as they please. They use natural language and represent participants’ worlds with quantitative and qualitative data. They are usually found in exploratory research and provide rich information although analyzing these questions is more difficult.
Closed-ended questions force participants to choose from responses that were predetermined by the researcher. They provide quantitative data. Closed-ended questions are used when the topic is not exploratory and the variables are understood. Data from closed-ended questions can be analyzed with standardized quantitative statistical analysis.
