Give an example of how you could help facilitate the transition from a preschool to a kindergarten classroom for a child with a disability.
What will be an ideal response?
There are several steps that teachers (professionals) can take to ensure a smoother transition from preschool to kindergarten. These steps include (1) planning visits to the “new” school; (2) talking to the child about the new classroom they will be in, the activities they will do, and the friends they will meet; (3) helping children “role-play” going to a new school; (4) creating activities that help them visualize the new environment (e.g., scrapbooks); and (5) inviting kindergarten teachers in to the preschool to “get to know” the child before a transition happens.
