Explain how a school voucher program works. How are these programs related to education quality and how do proponents believe voucher programs might improve this quality? What are the negatives associated with this option?

What will be an ideal response?

School vouchers are programs, whereby government provides an amount of money to families that they can use to help subsidize sending their kids to a private school. Vouchers relate to quality because theoretically, such programs will increase the amount of competition among schools and ultimately lead to better quality. Public schools, concerned about losing students, will improve their programs in order to compete. On the negative side, vouchers may not help all people who cannot afford any additional costs, they could detract from the public school system and lead to closures, there may be limited opportunities within the private school system to take advantage of vouchers, and some have argued that there is a violation of separation of church and state with these programs.
