1) Gather information about the problem from the customer or service advisor.

2) Verify that the problem exists.

3) Thoroughly define what the problem is and when it occurs.

4) Research all available information to determine the possible causes of the problem.

5) Isolate the problem by testing.

6) Continue testing to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

7) Get customer approval and repair the problem, then verify the repair.
