Hospital management, in response to the 7% increase in the costs of blood products, declares that physicians will be trained on conserving blood products, and that this will decrease blood usage by at least 7%, thereby eliminating the need to increase the Blood Bank's supply budget. Describe the flaws in this plan.

What will be an ideal response?

Management does not know if the physicians are overusing blood products, so there is no guarantee that blood usage will fall after training. Management also failed to consider the costs or the logistics of training the physicians. Management should have consulted with the Manager and the Medical Director of the Blood Bank before making its plan.
