What advice would you give the parent of a four-year-old who refuses to eat anything except peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?

What will be an ideal response?

The child is experiencing a food jag, which is quite normal, very common, and temporary. It can also be a way for the child to exert independence. The parent should model the consumption of different foods by making a variety of appealing foods available to the child at every mealtime. Mealtimes should not become a battlefield.
