List the three major components of intelligence and, based on the research, discuss where they are represented in the brain.

What will be an ideal response?

The three major components are linguistic, logical-mathematical, and spatial. Linguistic is represented in a network of structures located in the left frontal and temporal lobes.
Spatial ability is represented in the parietal lobes. Studies show a gender difference in spatial ability - males show greater cortical surface area in the parietal lobes, which was correlated with better performance; females show a greater gray matter volume relative to white matter in the parietal lobes, which was correlated with poorer performance.
Mathematical ability depends on the prefrontal cortex and the parietal cortex. More specifically - greater activity between the parietal lobes is related to problem solving; greater activity in the parietal lobes for estimation of values; greater activity in the left prefrontal cortex for calculations being performed from memory; activation of both prefrontal cortices and parietal lobes for calculations, with increased activation in the parietal lobes with increasing difficulty of the calculation, and increased activation in the prefrontal cortex with increasing speed demands.
