Middle managers and supervisors are often the highest target of ethics training
because of the unique position they occupy. They are role models for their
subordinates, and they also shape the conditions in which ethics violations might take place. Additionally, they must often make decisions themselves about their
subordinates’ ethics violations and choose how to praise or condemn certain behaviors. Middle managers and supervisors are also under greater pressure than many employees, as they must deal with the demands of upper management while handling requests for more time or resources by their subordinates. And like all management, mid-level managers and supervisors have a greater access to resources and power--and thus the opportunity for ethics violations--than low-level employees and their subordinates.
