Explain how to provide rescue breathing for infants and children
What will be an ideal response?
Rescue breathing for infants or children:
1. If child is large enough, form a seal around the mouth; for an infant or small child, form a seal by placing your mouth over the infant’s mouth and nose
2. Administer two full, slow breaths
3. Adjust amount of air administered according to the size of the child or infant
4. Because smaller lungs provide more resistance, do not be afraid to use some force to get air into the lungs
5. If unable to get air into child or infant’s lungs, reopen airway and ventilate again
6. If still impossible to get air into lungs, assume airway obstruction and follow procedure for removing obstruction
7. If air flows easily into lungs, provide the two full slow breaths
