In other words, leaders should not say one thing and do another. Leaders should mentor employees in modeling positive safety behaviors. Accountability: Leadership should establish minimum expectations and standards for internal compliance with safety and ethical standards. Leaders need to hold themselves and the employee group accountable for maintaining the safety and ethical standards and bring appropriate corrective actions to bear as needed. Show Genuine Concern for Employees: It is imperative for the leadership of an organization to demonstrate consistent, genuine concern for the safety, health, and overall well-being of the employees in their charge. Actions of this nature help to establish trust among employees, which is ultimately beneficial to the organization. Training: Leadership should establish appropriate training in safety and ethical standards for all employees in the organization. Put it in writing: Leadership needs to put its support for safety as an internal ethical value in writing in the form of an organizational commitment statement, so that it becomes an actual corporate value supported across the board by leadership.
