Why was important to monitor a wired network?
What will be an ideal response?
Until recently one of the most important tasks of a network manager was to monitor the network in terms of how it was being used and its performance. This was necessary because the rate of network utilization was growing dramatically every year. In order to continue to provide adequate throughput to all users, new networking equipment, such as hubs, routers, and switches, along with additional network wiring and connections, were needed. Because of the "lead time" needed to make these installations before all network throughput was completely "saturated,"network managers constantly monitored network resources to know when to begin planning for the next increase in the network's infrastructure.
In recent years the need for network monitoring has diminished as network equipment has become more powerful, intelligent, significantly less expensive, and even self-monitoring. Some network managers today even question if network monitoring for wired networks is worth the time and money expended.
