The greeting: The interpersonal greeting is our routine way of initiating conversation with someone, and we usually adjust it based on our perception of our relationship with a specific person, our mood, and how we imagine the other person will respond.
Topic priming: We prime a conversation by keeping the communication channels between us open and by previewing for the other person what the topic or focus of our conversation will be.
The heart of the conversation: This is where we find its focus or goal of the conversation.
Preliminary processing: This is when we process what has just occurred in the conversation.
The closing: The closing is the end of the conversation, often letting the other person know whether we intend to meet with him or her again.
