The data parameters long-term fuel trim (LTFT) and short-term fuel trim (STFT) are software programs contained in the PCM that tailor the air/fuel delivery system as part of the emission system adaptive strategy. If everything in the system is functioning smoothly, both LTFT and STFT values should be close to 0. Numbers above 0 (0 to +30) indicate that a richer air/fuel ratio (more fuel) is required, and a number less than 0 (0 to -30) indicates that a leaner air/fuel ratio (less fuel) is required.
