?Without large inputs of water and synthetic inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, most green revolution and genetically engineered crop varieties produce yields that are no higher (and are sometimes lower) than those from traditional strains. These high inputs also cost too much for most subsistence farmers in less-developed countries.
