The different types of time include: Allocated time—the amount of time a teacher or school designates for a content area or topic, such as elementary schools' allocating an hour a day to math or middle and secondary schools' having 55-minute periods; instructional time—the amount of time left for teaching after routine management and administrative tasks are completed; engaged time—the amount of time students are paying attention and involved in learning activities; and academic learning time—the amount of time students are successful while engaged in learning activities.
