The patient needs to be educated with ongoing discussion on the objective of periodontal treatment and compliance. Review with the patient the fact that treatment is needed to eliminate/reduce risk factors and to prevent the progression and/or recurrence of periodontal disease. This treatment does not stop when active therapy is finished, and it is important to continue with everything that was taught to the patient. Review the importance of regular maintenance visits to the general dentist and the periodontist.
