What is pharmacogenomics and how is it useful in biotechnology and medicine?

What will be an ideal response?

Pharmacogenomics is the practice of customizing medicine by designing a patient's
treatment strategy based on the person's genetic profile. In a sense, each person would have a file
with their entire genetic pattern. Each year, many people have adverse reactions to medications
and treatments, or the treatment is ineffective. Knowing how a person will respond to a treatment
ahead of time would be an extremely powerful tool to ensure safe and effective therapies.
