Identify three principles of court decisions on funding religion-based education.

Fill in the blank(s) with the appropriate word(s).

The first is that aid to students and their families is more acceptable than is aid to institutions that are connected to churches. If parents and children have made their own choice to seek a religious education, they should be able to do so. These citizens are, in principle, as much entitled to public support for education as their fellow citizens who choose public schools for their children--as one aspect of free exercise of religion. Second, institutions of higher education are permitted more entanglement between church and state than are elementary and secondary schools. The assumption is that more mature students are less vulnerable to the influence of any overt religious teachings. Third, the public sector should not have to spend additional money on education because of the special religious demands of a group, but neither should it impose additional financial burdens on religious groups. Students can also identify examples allowed by the Court for each of these.
