Students should consider the decision to go to war in Iraq

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: Ask them to determine whether the government doctored the evidence or made honest mistakes in emphasizing the threat of weapons of mass destruction. Students should also analyze the role of Congress in the decision to go to war. Congress gave the president nearly unlimited power to prosecute the conflict. Were Congressmen fooled or did they simply not interpret the evidence correctly? Moreover, did Congress give up too much authority to the president? Ask students to compare the Congressional endorsement of going to war in Iraq with the War Powers Act and determine whether Congress gave up too much of its oversight role.
