When a member buckles, it bends. Explain the difference between buckling and bending.
What will be an ideal response?
Bending deformation occurs when the load is perpendicular to the axis of the member. It occurs in all magnitudes of the load -small load or a large load. Buckling deformation occurs when the load is parallel to the axis of the member. It occurs only when the load reaches a certain critical value, called the critical load.
