(b) Coming to attention: recognizing the need to attend; being in a state of readiness
Selective attention: the focusing function that selects the relevant stimuli to attend to, while rejecting the rest
Sustained attention: maintaining attention to a task or learning for a length of time sufficient to accomplish the task; maintaining vigilance throughout the period of cognitive processing
(c) If attention functions are deficient or defective, then valuable stimuli are lost, and further cognitive processing or learning cannot occur.
