Write a scenario in which a reporter violates privacy through intrusion and false light.
What will be an ideal response?
Varies. However, the scenario should clearly show an understanding of intrusion and false light and how a reporter could commit these invasions of privacy. For example, a reporter may want to get a story on a movie star who is suspected of having connections with the criminal world. As a result, the reporter follows the movie star into a restaurant where a gangster often eats. Without asking permission, the reporter takes a picture of the movie star as he happens to be standing near a table where the gangster sits. The reporter then uses this photo in an article about the movie star that claims he often deals with criminals. The reporter has committed intrusion because he failed to ask the restaurant owner for permission to take photographs. The reporter has committed false light by printing a photograph that implies a connection between the movie star and a gangster, when no actual connection really exists.
