Administrative procedures – this includes quizzes, testing, graduation and instruction on note-taking.

Administration of Justice – courses include history of law enforcement, organizations, role of probation, parole, corrections, and social services.

Basic Law – in this area one would find constitutional law, criminal procedures, civil liability, vehicle and traffic law, and juvenile law.

Police Procedures – courses form the core of police academy training and include patrol observations, crimes in progress, field notes, intoxication, mental illness, traffic enforcement, accidents and emergency vehicle operations, criminal investigations include interviews and interrogations, evidence collection, and crime topics related to burglary, robbery, injury and death, sex crimes, drugs, organized crime, cybersecurity, arson.

Police Proficiency – these are skills courses related to firearms, emergency vehicle driving, arrest techniques, testimony and demeanor in court.

Community Relations – courses in this category involve a wide range of topics in dealing with the public such as cultural diversity, media, victim/witness services, stress awareness and ethics.
